Our night team are on hand to take room service orders and keep the hotel running smoothly overnight.  Unless you are a night owl it’s likely that you won’t get meet them so we spent the evening getting to know Pete and Lisa to find out more about their roles. 

Typical day – Night Porter 

The Night TeamNo two nights are the same. There is a variety of duties that need to be completed on the night shift. From checking in and out guests and making sure our guests enjoy their time with us to setting up conference rooms for the next day.

My shift finishes around 7.15am. I do a handover to the morning manager, reception and the day porters and put all the morning newspapers out before I leave.

Typical day – Night Receptionist 

I start my shift by getting a handover from reception. After that, I have a walk around the bar to see who is on shift and get an update on what has happened during the day.

Then I email the events list to the information centre and order our newspapers for the next day. I might have some late check ins or some other requests from our guests.

After the bar shuts, sometimes we have guests drinking in the lounge or ordering room service so I help with their orders.

Not only do I look after reception but during my shift, I am also responsible for security. This means I walk around the hotel blocks, the golf course and the restaurant to check everything is ok.

Before I leave I deliver milk, put out the newspapers and start checking guests out.

What is the best part of your job?

Peter: The best part of my job is being involved in the variety of events that take place here and I also love meeting all the different clients.

Lisa: I really like my team and I also enjoy interacting with guests from so many different countries.

What do you do to make sure our guests have a memorable experience at Wyboston Lakes?

Peter: Each guest has individual needs. If a guest has an early check out and won’t have breakfast on site, I’ll make sure they can get a hot coffee before they leave.

Lisa: I always try to help every guest as best I can. Even in difficult situations I make sure I always have a smile on my face try to resolve the problem.

If you could pick anything on the Waterfront Bar menu, what would you pick?

Peter: As a vegetarian I’d go with a the Wild Mushroom Linguini.

Lisa: The blue cheese and mushroom risotto.

If you could pick any treatment at the YSpa, which would you pick?

Peter: I’m not really a spa treatment kind of person, but I would treat my partner would enjoy the Hot Stones Message or the Elemis Superfood Pro Radiance Facial.

Lisa: The scalp and back massage.
